SJ Hazim is a dynamic consultant and creativity practitioner specializing in urban arts, focusing on community conversations and trauma-based healing through his organization, Authentic Expressions LLC. Grounded in values of peace, love, unity, and fun, SJ uses spoken word and Hip Hop as powerful tools for creativity, self-direction, and empowerment. As the creator of Authentic Expressions LLC, he has earned recognition as Topeka’s Social Media Influencer of the Year by the Greater Topeka Partnership in 2019.

SJ's latest project is a compilation song commemorating the 70th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education, set to release on March 16, 2024, with a video premiering on May 17, 2024. This compilation features 29 local artists and underscores his commitment to community and cultural heritage. He recently collaborated with Lamont Jackson on a feel-good track titled "Levitate" which has over 200k streams on Spotify and 500k across all the platforms. 

 

His artistic achievements include a solo performance in Vanessa German's internationally acclaimed poetry operetta, "The Way of the Light," which is under consideration for a Grammy in 2025. SJ is also featured in Dr. Walt Menninger's memoir, set to be released on September 22, 2024, honoring the Menninger family's legacy in mental health.

 

SJ serves as Vice President on the board of directors for NAMI Kansas, playing a key role in raising awareness about mental health. He has been married for 22 years to Miranda Chavez-Hazim, and they have a 21-year-old daughter, Aliya Hazim. With deep ties to Topeka, where he is affectionately known by many as Mr. Topeka and proudly displays "Topeka Strong" tattooed on his hand, SJ Hazim continues to make a profound impact through his creative and community-focused endeavors.
